Non-text model Jev parent TypeSafe AI closes $870M Series A at $7.5B valuation

TypeSafe AI announced on October 9 a $870 million Series A at a $7.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from Sequoia and DCVC, and Martin Casado joining the board.

TypeSafe AI, the parent company of non-text AI model Jev, announced on October 9 a $870 million Series A at a $7.5 billion post-money valuation. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from Sequoia Capital and existing investor DCVC, and a16z general partner Martin Casado will join the company's board. Jev launched on September 15 and is built on the Transformer architecture but does not output text. Instead, it outputs what the company calls calibrated decision probabilities, runs significantly faster than large language models and uses far fewer tokens. TypeSafe AI says Jev is intended for automation tasks rather than text or code generation, and that one-third of Fortune 500 companies are already using it. The company was founded in 2024 by former OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida, former Meta research engineer Sasha Sheng and engineer Erik Gafni. Diogo Almeida said in the announcement that progress on language modeling over the past few years has not been practical for automation because computers speak a different language.
