About 3.5 months earlier, OpenRouter had completed a $113 million round at a roughly $1.3 billion valuation. The $7.5 billion acquisition price is about 5.8x that valuation.OpenRouter founders will join Stripe to lead AI infrastructure-related businesses post-acquisition. Stripe's move secures a foothold in payment and model distribution in the AI economy, echoing the Aug 17 Synchrony-OpenAI partnership that brought Amazon and Walmart store cards into ChatGPT Checkout.The deal is one of the largest AI infrastructure acquisitions of 2026.
