Pony.ai partners with Uber to deploy 2,000+ Robotaxis across five European cities, starting with Zagreb
Pony.ai and Uber announced on August 14 an expansion of their partnership to deploy more than 2,000 Pony.ai Robotaxis across five European cities, including integrating the existing commercial Zagreb service into the Uber app, with additional Middle East plans.
On August 14, autonomous driving company Pony.ai and global mobility platform Uber announced an expansion of their strategic partnership, with plans to deploy more than 2,000 Pony.ai Robotaxis across five European cities. The deployment extends from the existing commercial service launched in Zagreb, Croatia in May 2026. Beyond Europe, the two parties also plan to deepen collaboration in the Middle East.
Under the framework, Pony.ai provides L4 autonomous driving technology, vehicles and operational expertise, while Uber provides booking, payment, customer service and platform-level user access. Day-to-day fleet operations are carried out by locally selected partners, with vehicle funding and asset ownership allocated flexibly per market. Pony.ai describes this co-built fleet model as central to scaling Robotaxi operations.
Pony.ai's seventh-generation Robotaxi is automotive-grade mass-production ready and has reached unit-economic breakeven in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. CEO James Peng previously disclosed that Pony.ai's per-vehicle cost is roughly one-quarter to one-fifth of Waymo's. According to Pony.ai's published plan, by 2026 the company's global footprint will cover more than 20 cities, with the Robotaxi fleet exceeding 3,500 vehicles. The European deployment alone accounts for more than half of its global fleet expansion target.
