NVIDIA cuts OpenAI Ohio data center financing commitment from $250B to under $120B
NVIDIA and OpenAI are nearing a financing agreement for the Ohio hyperscale data center campus (10GW). NVIDIA's financing commitment has been cut from $250B to under $120B in response to investor risk concerns.
A report dated August 16 indicated NVIDIA and OpenAI are nearing a financing agreement for the Ohio hyperscale data center campus (10GW capacity, led by SoftBank subsidiary SB Energy). NVIDIA's financing commitment has been cut from an initial $250 billion to under $120 billion, responding to investor concerns over risk exposure. The agreement could be signed as early as this weekend.
NVIDIA also plans to invest about $3 billion in SB Energy, further binding cooperation with SoftBank in AI compute infrastructure. Earlier this year, NVIDIA committed up to hundreds of billions in compute investment and financing guarantees for OpenAI data centers. This cut reflects NVIDIA maintaining the OpenAI partnership while reducing concentration risk on a single customer.
The Ohio campus is positioned as a flagship project of the OpenAI-NVIDIA compute alliance, primarily hosting next-generation GPT model training and inference workloads. In parallel, OpenAI launched multiple ChatGPT product updates: GPT-5.6 Multi-Agent V2 can handle 741-turn large conversations; frontend optimization delivered 94% faster load, 41.2% lower memory, and 98.2% fewer network requests.
