Meta Superintelligence Labs hires OpenAI veteran researcher Luke Metz

On August 24, well-known AI researcher Luke Metz confirmed he has joined Meta Superintelligence Labs, reporting to Alexander Wang, who oversees all of Meta's AI business.

Luke Metz left OpenAI in 2024 to join Mira Murati's Thinking Machines, and returned to OpenAI earlier this year. He will formally join Meta this week.

In recent months, Meta has released multiple new AI models, including the open-source 30B parameter model Muse Glimmer (Apache 2.0) in July and the latest Muse Spark 1.1 agentic encoding model. Since its 2025 AI team reorganization, Meta has continued to invest in agents and open-source large models.
