Finance RL environments startup Halluminate raises $30M Series A led by Oak HC/FT
Nine-person San Francisco startup Halluminate announced a $30 million Series A led by Oak HC/FT on October 1; four of the top five US closed-source AI labs are paying customers, ARR is mid-eight figures, and the company is profitable; the lab builds RL environments and benchmarks for financial knowledge work.
Halluminate founder Jerry Wu announced on October 1 a $30 million Series A led by Oak HC/FT, with Y Combinator, Orange Collective, FT Partners, and Heavybit participating; total funding now stands at $38.5 million. Halluminate is a nine-person San Francisco data research lab focused on benchmarks and reinforcement learning (RL) environments for financial services; the company says four of the top five US closed-source AI labs are paying customers, that ARR is in the mid-eight figures, and that it is already profitable.
The thesis is that frontier models dominate contest math and code but still stumble on real financial work like private-equity diligence. Halluminate is building verticalized data research labs that produce RL environments targeting those gaps; the lab sells frontier-model customers first and financial-services enterprises second. In August the company released a benchmark that asked seven frontier models to walk through a simulated PE diligence process, where the highest average score was about 51%.
The round is led by Oak HC/FT, an early-stage firm that specializes in healthcare and financial services; the other participants are Y Combinator, Orange Collective, FT Partners, and Heavybit. Halluminate says it will use the funding to keep building verticalized RL environments. The deal is part of a broader signal that AI capital is moving down the stack toward data and training environments.
