Google Gemini app reaches 1 billion MAU, fastest growing product in company history
On August 12 Pichai announced Gemini App MAU passed 1B, Google's 14th product to reach that milestone; iOS MAU exceeds 100M and ~63% of users use voice.
On August 12, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on X that the company's flagship AI app Gemini has officially crossed the 1 billion monthly active user mark. Gemini becomes Google's 14th product to enter the billion-user club and one of the fastest-growing web products in company history.
Pichai thanked Josh Woodward on X, who leads Google Labs, the Gemini app, AI Studio, and the broader Gemini team. In June this year, Google announced Gemini App MAU had passed 900 million. On iOS, Gemini's active users have crossed 100 million, which suggests most Gemini users are also Android users.
About 63% of Gemini users interact with the assistant via voice, and Gemini now generates more than 150 million images per day. Google emphasized the 1B MAU figure counts only the standalone Gemini app and excludes users who touch Google AI features through other channels, though Gemini pre-installed on Android phones is included.
AI Mode in Google Search has separately accumulated over 1 billion MAU globally. To support the ongoing surge, Google recently launched Gemini 3.5 Flash, aimed at improving code writing and autonomous agent task handling. OpenAI previously hit 1 billion ChatGPT weekly active users in July and first publicly confirmed it on August 6. Google's Q2 results showed Gemini MAU had already passed 950 million and daily actives tripled over the past year.
