Apple website shows Apple Intelligence will integrate Qwen
Apple's China website updated on August 8 to show Mac users can use Qwen through Apple Intelligence for writing and Siri Q&A, with the same day's MIIT filing covering Apple Intelligence.
On August 8, Apple's China website was updated to show Mac users can use Alibaba's Qwen through Apple Intelligence. After enabling the Qwen extension in macOS Settings under Apple Intelligence & Siri, users can use Qwen for writing tools and Siri Q&A. For example, opening a PDF in Preview and saying Hey Siri, ask Qwen to summarize this document will invoke Qwen.
Apple emphasizes that Siri will ask the user before using Qwen if it determines Qwen would help, and the user must confirm before any photo or file is sent to Qwen.
On the same day, the Cyberspace Administration of China published filings for seven new mobile-side generative AI services, including Apple Intelligence, Huawei Xiaoyi LLM, and OPPO AndesGPT. Alibaba confirmed that Qwen will be integrated as an AI capability into Apple Intelligence to deliver experiences to Chinese users on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.
Although Apple's China website already describes Qwen usage, Apple Intelligence has not officially launched in China. Industry analysis suggests it may arrive alongside the next-generation iPhone in September.
