AMD announced on September 28 the acquisition of World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion (about 55.1 billion RMB). World Labs was founded by Fei-Fei Li in 2024 in San Francisco, focusing on spatial intelligence and 3D world models, and is regarded by the industry as a representative startup in AI's physical world understanding direction.

Following the acquisition, Fei-Fei Li joins AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting directly to CEO Lisa Su. She will lead AMD's integration strategy across spatial intelligence, AI accelerators, and data center GPUs, while continuing to participate in World Labs R&D work. The acquisition marks AMD's expansion in AI hardware strategy from "general-purpose GPU acceleration" toward "spatial intelligence and 3D world model dedicated hardware."

World Labs' core technology complements AMD's existing GPU accelerator portfolio (including the MI400 series) and will help AMD more directly challenge Nvidia's leading position in the AI training and inference chip market. AMD stated in the announcement that World Labs' R&D team will be integrated into AMD's AI organization, and the World Labs brand will continue operating as an independent business unit under AMD.
