Doubao Work says simple questions no longer consume paid quota for individual users

Doubao Work announced on November 3 that routine simple questions from individual users no longer consume paid quota, while document generation, presentation creation and deep research may still draw on quota, with enterprise and team arrangements to follow.

Doubao Work announced on November 3 that from that date, routine simple questions from individual users no longer consume paid quota. Which questions count as simple is determined by Doubao Work based on the specific request; generating documents, producing presentations or conducting in-depth research may still consume quota. Entitlement arrangements for enterprise and team editions will be announced separately.

The change lands as competition among native Chinese AI apps shifts from user acquisition to high-frequency operations. QuestMobile's autumn report shows Doubao leading September 2026 with 72.0 monthly uses per user but down 6.1% in frequency and 7.8% in duration versus June. Exempting simple questions from quota is a typical friction-reduction measure aimed at raising interaction frequency and duration.

At the same time, another ByteDance line also announced adjustments: the enterprise edition of Coze is being phased out, with new customer purchases ending November 30.
