OpenAI announced that from December, as it brings Work agent capabilities into the main ChatGPT experience, Plus, Pro and Business subscribers will share a unified usage quota across ChatGPT and Codex. Usage across both products will be metered uniformly in tokens, with actual consumption depending on the model chosen and task complexity, while instant chat does not consume quota. The company said it is completing transition preparations so user workflows are not disrupted, and expects most users will wait for quota resets no more often than before. Users will be able to view the combined remaining quota and the next reset time in the usage section of settings. If quota runs out, users can wait for the automatic reset, upgrade their subscription or buy credits to keep using the features. The change folds coding agent consumption into the general chat allowance, reflecting the rising weight of agentic tasks in the subscription structure.
