Musk announces Grok 4.6 launch on August 7 at SpaceX earnings call

On August 4 US Eastern time at the SpaceX Q2 2026 earnings call, SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk announced that xAI's Grok 4.6 will launch next week (around August 7-12, 2026) as a 1.5-trillion-parameter model with significant improvements in supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and reinforcement learning (RL). Musk also laid out a roadmap: Grok 4.7 in 3-4 weeks and Grok 5 within 2026.
This was SpaceX's first earnings call since its IPO. Q2 total revenue was $7.814 billion, up 92% year-over-year. The AI business contributed $2.6 billion, up 247% year-over-year, the fastest-growing segment. Q2 capex was $18.369 billion, far above market expectations of $13.2 billion, with $15.83 billion invested in AI. Musk said on the call that the company is building AI compute at a faster scale than anyone.
SpaceX projects compute capacity exceeding 2GW by end of 2026 and approaching 10GW rather than 5GW by end of 2027, supporting larger-scale model training. Grok 5 will be the first model trained on SpaceX's full engineering dataset, though ITAR-restricted rocket engine core technologies will be excluded. The first Starmind AI satellites are expected to launch next year, running optimized NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 architectures in orbit.
