X launches Grokbot Template Rewards creator pilot paying on repeat usage, not impressions

X launched the invite-only Grokbot Template Rewards creator pilot on September 25. The program enables creators to build, share, and monetize custom Grokbot templates directly on the platform. Payouts are evaluated on a bi-weekly cycle, with compensation determined by real utilization and repeat engagement rather than surface-level impressions and likes.
X Money setup is required for payouts. Pilot creators must publicly post about their bots with links at least twice per pay period. Retweeter billyuchenlin publicly reported earning $500 in the last two weeks from usage of his Home Robots template. X published official pilot terms covering eligibility, taxes, and disputes. Payouts currently flow through X's Original Content Rewards channel, with possible migration to a dedicated settlement system in the future.
The pilot is widely seen as X's answer to OpenAI's GPT Store, but the choice to pay on usage rather than impressions aligns more closely with a SaaS retention model than with advertising revenue share. Grok Bot itself is positioned as an AI agent product giving each bot its own continuously running cloud computer, with cross-platform support across desktop and mobile and a multi-agent architecture that includes a coordinating chief-of-staff bot. The Grokbot Template Rewards program slots alongside Grok Bot, SuperGrok Plus, and Cursor Pro+ integrations in xAI's broader commercialization picture.
