While Amazon blocks AI agents, Walmart rolls out the welcome mat
Agent Gateway lets approved agents search inventory and buy on behalf of users, while Agent Profiles let customers cap spending without sharing personal data with agents.
Walmart announced on October 21 the launch of its Agent Gateway, a new MCP server that lets approved agents search Walmart inventory and make purchases on behalf of users. The retailer said the gateway also lets customers shop without sharing personal information or purchase history with agents. Agent Profiles, rolling out next month, give each agent a dedicated profile so customers can see agent purchases separately and either require approval per transaction or set spending limits. Walmart also introduced terms for AI agents, noting its returns process applies even when an agent does not act as intended, and that agents cannot access payment information or take actions beyond user intent.
