TikTok launches Buy Direct one-click checkout and conversational shopping assistant
On October 5 at Advertising Week New York, TikTok launched Buy Direct one-click in-app checkout, Shopping Assistant conversational AI helper, Agentic Leads and expanded Smart+ and GMV Max automation.
On October 5 at Advertising Week New York 2026, TikTok released a suite of AI-driven updates for advertisers, with the core goal of upgrading the recommendation feed from a discovery surface to a place where users can also complete purchases and get help without leaving the app.
On turning discovery into action, TikTok launched Buy Direct: users can complete checkout directly from the For You feed on brands they like without leaving TikTok. Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI helper that understands context, remembers user preferences, and provides real-time product specs, shipping, sizing and stock info while assisting with the transaction. The checkout infrastructure is built with commerce and payment partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe. Agentic Leads uses AI agents for lead generation across TikTok Direct Messages and advertiser-owned site forms.
On campaign reach, TikTok launched TikTok Ad Network (TTAN), opening nearly 400,000 external premium app impressions to US advertisers with complete TikTok Ads Manager integration. On the partner ecosystem, TikTok for Business builds MCP connectivity on the open Model Context Protocol. Since July, advertisers activating and managing campaigns via MCP grew more than 200%, with MCP connectors now live on Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.
On automation, TikTok extended Smart+ to Search Ads campaigns and introduced Smart+ Creative Selection to unify advertiser-owned assets, Symphony AI-generated creative and creator content. GMV Max was upgraded to factor in business costs such as affiliate commissions, coupons and referral fees, helping advertisers optimize real ROI.
