Abu Dhabi TII launches Falcon-Emirati-7B, a model built for spoken Emirati Arabic
Abu Dhabi's Technology Innovation Institute (TII) released Falcon-Emirati-7B, a 7B-parameter model trained on spoken Emirati Arabic, regional idioms and cultural context, the first Falcon variant built for a specific Gulf dialect.
On October 7, Abu Dhabi's Technology Innovation Institute released Falcon-Emirati-7B, the first variant in the Falcon family built specifically for a Gulf dialect. The 7-billion-parameter model is trained on spoken Emirati Arabic, regional idioms and cultural context.
Falcon-Emirati-7B addresses a gap in mainstream large models for UAE spoken dialect. Standard Arabic models struggle with Gulf colloquial Arabic and culturally specific references; TII applied systematic localized corpora and cultural annotation to bring regional idioms, daily expressions and local named entities into the pretraining and fine-tuning pipeline. The model is positioned both as a dialog and translation system and as localized infrastructure for government services, education and media.
Falcon-Emirati-7B continues TII's sovereign-AI trajectory since the first Falcon release in 2023, aligned with the UAE's national AI strategy under Vision 2031. TII maintains the broader open-weight Falcon catalog and is one of the few research institutions in the Middle East shipping dialect-level sovereign models.
