Replit ends Anthropic partnership, will use OpenAI Sol and Astra, CEO says
Replit co-founder Amjad Masad said at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that the company switched to OpenAI Sol/Astra based on cost, performance, and partnership factors.
On October 16, Amjad Masad, co-founder and CEO of AI coding platform Replit, said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that the company is no longer working with Anthropic and will use OpenAI's Sol and Astra models instead.
Masad said the decision was based on three factors: cost, performance, and partnership. He also pointed to Replit's internal benchmarks showing OpenAI Sol and Astra outperform Claude on building vibe-coded applications from scratch. He said ChatGPT is the better choice now.
Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but did not disclose that the Anthropic relationship had changed. Anthropic insiders familiar with the partnership denied that it had ended, noting that Replit was still using Anthropic models as recently as a few weeks ago — a late September blog post cited Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as production models for Replit Agent.
Masad also disclosed shifts in Replit's revenue mix: enterprise contracts have grown from around 2% of revenue last year to roughly 15% this year, with more than 50% of revenue coming from B2B business. He did not share ARR figures.
