Recursive launches Flint, a laptop coding model it says was largely built by AI

Flint is free under Apache 2.0 on Hugging Face, runs at about 131 tokens per second on an M4 Pro MacBook Pro and leads SWE-Bench Verified among sub-50B models.

Recursive released Flint on October 21, its first model, largely built with help from its Eureka Machine automated research system, letting a small team build it from scratch in under four months. Flint is a mixture-of-experts coding model with 40 billion total parameters and 2.5 billion active, free to download on Hugging Face under Apache 2.0. Recursive measured about 131 tokens per second on an M4 Pro MacBook Pro, roughly twice comparable models, and above 150 tokens per second on an RTX Spark. Flint outperforms other sub-50B models on SWE-Bench Verified, though Alibaba Qwen3.8 27B scores higher on Recursive's own six-test average. Recursive raised 650 million dollars at a 4.65 billion valuation in May and is led by Richard Socher.
