OpenAI reportedly acquires presentation software startup NextSlide
OpenAI announced the acquisition of presentation software startup NextSlide on August 9, signaling an intent to compete directly with Microsoft and Google in productivity and visual communication software.
On August 9, OpenAI announced the acquisition of presentation software startup NextSlide. NextSlide focuses on AI-driven automatic presentation generation, converting text and data into visual slides automatically. The deal value was not disclosed.
The move signals OpenAI's expansion from pure model provider into consumer productivity tools, competing directly with Microsoft and Google in the PowerPoint and Slides market. NextSlide's technology will be integrated with existing ChatGPT features and may launch as a standalone presentation product in the future.
Alongside the NextSlide acquisition, OpenAI confirmed it is intentionally slowing development of its real-time Astra model for security reasons, while remaining aggressive on the product side. The NextSlide team will join OpenAI's consumer product organization, supporting both ChatGPT Enterprise and Consumer.
Analysts view the move as further vertical integration from AI companies into the application layer. In high-frequency office scenarios like presentations, AI generation capabilities can significantly reduce user production costs, but face direct competition from Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini Workspace.
