OpenAI signs 20-year NVIDIA lease with $105B guarantee for 8GW Ohio data center

On August 19, 2026, OpenAI announced a 20-year data center lease with NVIDIA for a large-scale AI infrastructure campus in central Ohio. The campus will provide 8GW of IT compute capacity, to be built and owned by SoftBank subsidiary SB Energy.NVIDIA will provide up to $105 billion in conditional guarantees for the related lease and power payment obligations, and will commit an additional $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy. Initial capacity is expected to come online in 2028, with construction creating about 35,000 jobs.The project is paired with at least 10GW of new power generation. OpenAI separately announced an AI factory at PORTS-Pike using the NVIDIA full stack, with initial deployment of 4.25GW.This is the second major infrastructure collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA this month. On Aug 14, The Information reported NVIDIA was in talks to invest up to $3 billion in SB Energy. The Ohio project is part of OpenAI's US Stargate plan.
