OpenAI infrastructure and compute lead Sachin Katti resigns on October 14; Uday Ruddarraju to take over
OpenAI's infrastructure and compute lead and former Intel CTO Sachin Katti announced on X on October 14 that he will leave OpenAI on November 15 and remain as an adviser, with his role to be taken over by Uday Ruddarraju, the former xAI infrastructure engineering lead.
OpenAI's head of infrastructure and compute and former Intel CTO Sachin Katti announced on X on October 14 US Eastern time that he will leave OpenAI on November 15 after roughly one year in the role and continue with the company as an adviser. In his farewell, Katti cited the Stargate data-center program, locking in double-digit gigawatts of compute across Ohio, Portsmouth, Georgia, Trainium and other projects with partners including NVIDIA, Broadcom, AMD, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, AWS and CoreWeave, and the launch of the GPT-Infra layer in three months. His successor is Uday Ruddarraju, who was promoted to compute CTO earlier this summer after joining OpenAI in July 2025 from xAI, where he led infrastructure engineering. Katti's departure is the latest in a string of senior OpenAI exits in recent months that already included Fidji Simo, Brad Lightcap, Denise Dresser and David Robinson, and OpenAI president Greg Brockman said the company is under a spotlight where every departure faces intense scrutiny but the resulting resilience makes it stronger.
