OpenAI launches Dots: always-on GPT-6 Astra agents, first one free with Pro
Dots is OpenAI's first always-on general-purpose agent product, powered by GPT-6 Astra with its own cloud computer and browser, connecting to 4,000+ apps. The first Dots is included free in Pro or Business Premium.
OpenAI launched Dots on September 29 as its first "always-on" general-purpose agent product, powered by GPT-6 Astra. Dots have their own cloud computer and browser, can connect to more than 4,000 apps through the plugin ecosystem, run 24/7, and continuously learn user preferences, thinking patterns, and quality standards from feedback.
Dots independently handle developer workflows (monitor feedback, identify improvements, build fixes, prepare PRs), product launches (learn audience and creative standards, revise launch materials), research analysis (re-run analyses, investigate unexpected results, update paper figures), sales follow-up (verify account history, build POCs), and content creation (learn style, prepare show notes and social drafts) across multiple professional scenarios. Users can open the Dots dashboard anytime to monitor work in progress and authorize Dots to use their laptop.
Dots maintain context across ChatGPT (desktop, web, mobile), Slack, and Teams, with SMS support coming soon. At the enterprise level, OpenAI simultaneously launched Specialist Dots, designed for specific organizational roles with independent identity, credentials, and system access. Specialist Dots integrate with Microsoft Agent 365 to plug into Microsoft's enterprise governance framework, applicable to procurement, invoice processing, email marketing, customer service, and commercial contracts.
On safety and control, each Dots runs on an isolated cloud computer, with passwords saved but never exposed to the model. Background operation uses read-only tools only. Users control which apps Dots can access and customize rules to allow, require approval, or block particular operations. Business, Enterprise, and Education workspace data is not used for training by default. The first Dots is included at no extra cost in Pro or Business Premium plans, runs 24/7, and conversations with Dots do not count against ChatGPT usage limits. Enterprise users (including Edu and Healthcare) need workspace administrator enablement for the beta.
