OpenAI DevDay on Sept 29 to unveil always-on assistant "o" and $500 ChatGPT Pro Max
OpenAI plans to unveil the always-on personal assistant "o" at its September 29 DevDay, reportedly based on a variant of GPT-6 Astra called Aeon, and may also launch a $500/month ChatGPT Pro Max plan.
Aggregated coverage by Sina Tech and Jiemian News on September 28 reports that OpenAI plans to unveil an always-on personal AI assistant codenamed "o" at its September 29 DevDay. IT Home, citing information from Alexey Shabanov, notes that multiple traces of "o" have appeared in recent ChatGPT configuration files, including "o" set as the display name and an "-o" email suffix. The assistant is positioned as a continuously running personal agent for long-horizon tasks and may be backed by an internal Aeon variant of GPT-6 Astra.
Sources also say OpenAI is preparing a ChatGPT Pro Max plan at $500 per month with ultra-fast response, reportedly powered by Cerebras wafer-scale engines, though OpenAI has not officially confirmed either the price or the underlying hardware. Wccftech earlier reported that JPMorgan’s latest Assistant Benchmark ranked Meta’s Muse as the strongest AI agent, a positioning widely interpreted as the backdrop for OpenAI’s move.
In product positioning, "o" is being framed as a direct response to Meta Muse, Grok Bot, and Hermes Agent in the persistent personal-assistant category. Separately, there are rumors that "o" will work in concert with an upcoming OpenAI consumer hardware device shaped like a donut with moving parts, though that hardware has likewise not been confirmed by OpenAI. OpenAI had no public comment on the leaks at the time of writing.
