OpenAI DevDay 2026 recap: GPT-6.1 Sol, Dots agents, and Pro 500 tier launch together
OpenAI launched 20+ major updates at DevDay on September 29, including the GPT-6.1 Sol model, always-on Dots agents, an Ultrafast tier (300 tokens/sec), and a Pro 500 tier with 25x Plus quota.
OpenAI held DevDay 2026 in San Francisco on September 29, with CEO Sam Altman and the core team unveiling more than 20 major updates spanning models, agents, developer tools, enterprise collaboration, and ecosystem partnerships. The company disclosed it now has 1.2 billion weekly active users.
On the model side, OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol, positioned as the mid-tier workhorse that nearly matches GPT-6 Astra intelligence at one-fifth the price. Standard input is $2, cached input is $0.10, and standard output is $10 per million tokens. The new model nearly matches Astra across coding, computer use, and professional work benchmarks while costing significantly less. GPT-6.1 Sol is available immediately via API (model name gpt-6.1-sol), Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, though it is not yet available in Chat conversations.
On the agent side, OpenAI officially launched Dots, the company's first "always-on" general-purpose agent product, powered by GPT-6 Astra. Dots have their own cloud computer and browser, can connect to 4,000+ apps, and run 24/7. The first Dots is included at no extra cost in Pro or Business Premium plans and maintains context across ChatGPT, Slack, and Teams. OpenAI also released Codex in the Cloud (cross-device reusable development environments), Codex Code Review, Codex Security Cloud, Decisions API, and Agents API with Computer use support.
On the commercial side, OpenAI introduced the new Pro 500 tier with 25x ChatGPT Plus quota and included Ultrafast mode access. Ultrafast reaches up to 8x speed in Codex (about 300 tokens per second) and up to 6x in the API. The same-day OpenAI Marketplace launched with 32 initial partners including Figma, Adobe, Sierra, Decagon, Hubspot, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, and Baseten, allowing enterprise customers to apply part of their OpenAI spend toward approved partner software. Sign in with ChatGPT launched with 16 initial partners including Cognition Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw, and Dactyl.
On the collaboration side, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Space (a shared workspace for teams, ChatGPT, and Dots), Pages (documents designed for human-agent collaboration), Collaborative Slides (exportable to PowerPoint/Google Slides), Meetings Plugin (automatic meeting notes on the macOS desktop app), and Create Teams and Share Tasks for Business and Enterprise plans, allowing periodic task delegation to Dots.
