ChatGPT Voice gains plugin access and lands inside Work on web and mobile

OpenAI rolled out Voice mode plugin access on September 23 to Free and Go users, with paid users gaining Voice in Work on web and mobile to generate documents, presentations, and spreadsheets by speaking.

Starting September 23, OpenAI pushed ChatGPT Live voice mode support for connected apps and account plugins to web, iOS, and Android. Users can call connected plugins such as Gmail, Slack, and calendar during voice conversations and follow up in text. Free and Go users can use Voice in Chat with the plugins their plans allow. In Work mode on web and mobile, paid users can speak to generate documents, presentations, and spreadsheets, call connected apps, and operate the cloud browser.

After a voice call ends, an unfinished Work task can continue in text mode. Work conversations sync across the cloud, so a task started on mobile can be continued on desktop with full context preserved. Voice commands do not grant extra permissions. Any action requiring confirmation must be approved on screen; voice approval is not supported. Enterprise workspace controls set by administrators continue to apply across apps, browsers, and individual features.

The update transplants the desktop-style agentic interaction model to mobile. Users state a goal by voice, Work connects the necessary apps and browser, assembles the result, and continues in text mode after the voice call ends. OpenAI also pushed Codex desktop updates including a fullscreen TUI, voice conversations on by default, the /usage analytics dashboard, status-based task filtering, and default worktree sessions.
