TechCrunch reported on October 8, citing the Financial Times, that OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue was approaching $50 billion. Axios previously reported on September 29 that annualized revenue was close to $70 billion. That earlier figure came from information shared with OpenAI investors and was partly intended to compare OpenAI with Anthropic's annualized revenue. Neither number is audited full year revenue, and the reporting periods and accounting approaches differ. Anthropic includes sales made by cloud partners, while OpenAI does not use that method, so the figures are not directly comparable. TechCrunch did not receive a formal response to its report from OpenAI. Leaked 2025 financial information showed about $13 billion in revenue against substantially higher spending. OpenAI raised $122 billion in a March funding round, and its reported IPO timeline has shifted to early 2027.
