OpenAI Academy expands with role-based courses for developers, leaders, educators, and students

OpenAI expanded its Academy on September 25 with role-based learning paths for developers, leaders, educators, and college students, all featuring course assessments and badges.

OpenAI expanded the OpenAI Academy on September 25 with role-based courses for developers, leaders, educators, and college students, joining the existing Apply AI at Work pathway. All paths include course assessments, with passing learners earning an OpenAI Academy course badge. Apply AI at Work helps knowledge workers build foundations, practice clearer instructions and context, and direct work to agents with appropriate checkpoints and human review.

The Build with AI pathway targets developers and technical teams using Codex or building products on the OpenAI API, covering the software development lifecycle, solution design, evaluations, agents, information retrieval, and production operations. Lead AI Adoption supports leaders responsible for strategy, adoption, and change management in connecting initiatives to business priorities, defining ownership and governance, and developing an initial AI strategy and roadmap. AI for Educators and AI for College Students cover teaching, learning, and career preparation scenarios with strict constraints on using only materials the educator or student has permission to use.

The core philosophy is 'use AI to learn AI.' Learners practice on real tasks, providing instructions, adding context, and reviewing results, then convert them into reusable workflows. Organizations can combine Apply AI at Work with focused learning paths for developers, leaders, educators, and students, choosing courses aligned to the work each role does. The expansion slots alongside OpenAI's prior Codex training and Learn AI content.
