Nvidia reportedly invests up to $3 billion in power infrastructure firm Lancium
Nvidia agreed on August 8 to invest $2 billion in power infrastructure developer Lancium, with a commitment of an additional $1 billion contingent on additional planned power capacity.
On August 8, Nvidia agreed to invest $2 billion in power infrastructure developer Lancium and committed an additional $1 billion once the company secures more planned power capacity, bringing total potential investment to $3 billion. Lancium, backed by Blackstone, develops power infrastructure in Texas serving OpenAI and Oracle AI campuses.
The deal values Lancium and its land and power interconnect assets at approximately $10 billion in enterprise value, including the investment and debt. Lancium has multiple Texas projects serving hyperscale data center customers, including OpenAI and Oracle's co-built AI campus.
The investment highlights the growing importance of upstream power supply in the AI compute supply chain. As GPU cluster sizes grow, power demand at single sites has jumped from tens of megawatts to hundreds of megawatts or even gigawatt scale. Traditional grid expansion cannot keep pace with AI training and inference growth, forcing AI companies to invest directly in power infrastructure.
Lancium focuses on liquid-cooled data centers and grid-aware scheduling. Its power management system coordinates AI loads with renewable generation, allowing hyperscale data centers to feed power back to the grid during peak demand periods and ease regional grid strain.
