Moonshot AI reportedly seeks Hong Kong IPO, Pre-IPO valuation may rise to $50B

The Information reported Aug 13: Moonshot AI has distributed shareholder resolutions seeking Hong Kong IPO approval and is closing a private round that could value it above $50B.

On August 13, The Information reported that Moonshot AI has distributed shareholder resolutions seeking approval for a Hong Kong IPO. Bloomberg separately reported that Moonshot has told investors it plans to list within six months; the company's annualized recurring revenue (ARR) reached $300 million as of June 2026, up $100 million from two months earlier.

To meet Hong Kong listing requirements, Moonshot is unwinding the offshore holding structure used to absorb foreign capital, transitioning to a domestic-friendly joint venture arrangement while retaining foreign investor stakes. With US markets essentially closed to Chinese tech companies, Hong Kong has become the default listing venue for Chinese AI firms.

A Bank of Communications International research note on August 13 pointed out that Moonshot's Kimi K3 marks the formal arrival of open-source large models in the 3-trillion-parameter era, reaching frontier-level native multimodal and million-token context agent capabilities. On third-party benchmarks like Artificial Analysis, K3 ranks among the global leaders, trailing only Claude Fable 5/Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol, while achieving this at lower inference cost.

Moonshot raised approximately $2 billion at a $20 billion valuation in May 2026, led by Meituan's investment arm; the recent $3.5 billion Series F brought post-money valuation up 75% from May to $35 billion. The market expects a Pre-IPO round starting in August that could lift valuation to $50 billion, predicated on ARR rising to approximately $1 billion over the next 6-12 months. Kimi K3 ranks third on the Artificial Analysis composite and is cheaper than competitors, but the "frontier+low-cost" narrative faces pressure after DeepSeek V4-Pro's launch; the company's compute bottleneck surfaced early in K3's release.
