Meta launches first coding agent Muse Code with low pricing and crash recovery

On August 6, Meta officially launched Muse Code in beta, its first AI coding agent, running in tandem with new model Muse Spark 1.2. Muse Code operates in the terminal, installable with a single command, and can handle end-to-end software engineering tasks across large code repositories including planning changes, writing code, running tools, and validating results, with crash recovery from the last checkpoint.
On Terminal-Bench 2.1, the Muse Code + Muse Spark 1.2 combination scored 82.9%, below Anthropic Claude Code + Opus 5 at 86.7%, but above OpenAI Codex + GPT-5.6 Terra at 81.8% and Grok Build at 81.6%. Meta Superintelligence Labs chief Alexandr Wang positioned the product on price rather than raw capability versus Anthropic and OpenAI.
Muse Code standard pay-as-you-go pricing is $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens, matching the Muse Spark 1.1 API price. Meta also introduced a contributor tier that lets developers who agree to share feedback pay as little as $0.20 per million output tokens, roughly 5% of the standard rate. Muse Code supports macOS and Linux at launch and will expand to third-party platforms including OpenRouter.
