Photonics startup Lumilens raises $700M+ Series C at $5.51B valuation
Photonics startup Lumilens emerged from stealth on August 6 with a $700M+ Series C at a $5.51B valuation, bringing total funding above $900M for AI data center optical interconnect expansion.
On August 6, photonics startup Lumilens announced a Series C of more than $700 million, bringing total funding above $900 million at a $5.51 billion valuation. The round was co-led by Atreides Management, Bain Capital Ventures, Meritech, Seligman Ventures, and Spark Capital, with Qualcomm Ventures, Addition, Alkeon, HarbourVest, JP Morgan Private Capital, Mayfield, Peak XV, and Redpoint Ventures participating.
Founded in early 2024 and headquartered in San Jose, Lumilens tackles a core bottleneck in AI data center scaling: connecting hundreds of thousands of GPUs so they operate as a single coordinated compute system rather than a collection of expensive chips.
Lumilens' LumiCore platform is a unified architecture combining silicon photonics, mixed-signal ICs, electrical-optical interposers, and optical systems. The product line covers high-density pluggable, near-package, and co-packaged optics, progressively moving optical connections closer to compute and switching silicon and pushing beyond copper's roughly 1.5-meter physical distance limit.
Lumilens' first scale-out product has completed qualification and is shipping into a hyperscaler's production AI data centers under a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar agreement. The company has also signed a deal with POET Technologies for up to $500 million in cumulative electrical-optical interposer engine purchases over five years, with an initial $50 million purchase order already placed.
