On October 6, at its developer day (DevDay 2025), OpenAI launched the GPT-5 Pro API alongside the Sora 2 video model and the gpt-realtime mini lightweight speech model.
GPT-5 Pro targets high-precision, deep-reasoning scenarios for industries with extremely high accuracy demands such as finance, law, and healthcare. The model supports 400K token context with text and image input, and a maximum output of 272K tokens (standard GPT-5 is 128K). It scores 89.4% on the GPQA Diamond PhD-level science test, with medical-domain hallucination rate down to 1.6%.
API pricing is $15 input and $120 output per 1M tokens, 12 times the standard GPT-5 output price, clearly targeting high-value professional tasks. OpenAI also released the official GPT-5 prompting guide covering agent control and context optimization strategies.
