Google launches Gemini student hub and AI study tools, free AI Pro for one year for US college students

US college students can claim 12 months free Google AI Pro ($19.99/mo); students in 140+ other markets can claim free AI Plus ($4.99/mo) — through Dec 31, 2026.
On August 19, Google launched a full suite of AI study tools for students, wrapping Gemini as a "study-organization + practice + research + progress-management" connected workflow that links to Search and Calendar.
The Gemini app received a dedicated student hub that consolidates shortcuts to study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes. Study notebooks use uploaded course materials (lecture notes, slides) to diagnose knowledge gaps, generate targeted lessons and practice, and track progress. Upcoming versions add graph and image support, plus the ability to extract deadlines and exam dates from syllabi and write them directly to Google Calendar. Gemini Live adds Deep Research — start a multi-step research task, leave it running in the background, get a notification when the report is ready, and discuss the findings via voice. Gemini can also generate interactive 3D simulations (e.g. a 3D DNA structure) alongside tables and grids for visualizing abstract topics.
On Search, custom practice quizzes covering science, math, humanities, foreign languages, and standardized exams (ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, NEET, SAT) are free globally in English. AI Overviews and AI Mode generate UI elements that return interactive visualizations — e.g. an interactive pH-scale view on a basic search; AI Mode can produce a customized version. The forthcoming Google Lens learning experience can explain course photos, flag possible mistakes, and help students when they get stuck.
For subscriptions, eligible US college students can claim 12 months of Google AI Pro free (a $19.99/month value, including 4x higher Gemini usage caps, Gemini Spark, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, 5 TB storage, Google Health); students in 140+ other markets can claim 12 months of Google AI Plus free ($4.99/month). A valid payment method is required and the offer expires December 31, 2026, after which subscriptions auto-renew at paid rates.
