Google launches Gemini student hub, US college students get one year of AI Pro free

On August 19, Google launched a dedicated Gemini student hub alongside a study tools bundle targeted at college students. Eligible US college students receive a 12-month free subscription to Google AI Pro (normally $19.99/month), including 4x Gemini usage limits, Gemini Spark, Gemini features across Gmail and Docs, and 5TB of storage.

Eligible students in 140+ other countries, including India, receive a 12-month free subscription to Google AI Plus, including Gemini Omni access, 2x usage limits, and 400GB of storage. Students also get up to 70% off YouTube Premium and select AI Pro bundles. Redemption deadline is December 31, 2026. Student status is verified through SheerID.

For study tools, Google added a student hub inside the Gemini app combining Study Notebooks, Flashcards, and Practice Quizzes. Students can upload lecture slides, notes, and other course materials; the system breaks them into topics, runs diagnostic quizzes to identify gaps, and generates lessons and quizzes around those gaps. Google will also add charts and images to lessons in coming weeks, and detect exam dates from syllabi to add to Google Calendar with user permission.

Gemini gains interactive visualizations including 3D simulations, tables, and grids, plus a new Deep Research capability inside Gemini Live. Students get embedded quizzes and interactive content in Gemini search results, covering math, science, languages, humanities and major standardized tests including SAT, ACT, AP, GRE, JEE, NEET, LSAT, MCAT, and ENEM.
