Conversational Gemini navigation comes to Apple CarPlay
Users can ask multi-step questions in Google Maps on CarPlay, such as requesting recommendations then navigating there while avoiding toll roads.
Google brought Gemini to Apple CarPlay on October 21, roughly 12 months after adding it to Android Auto. US drivers can now talk to Google Maps hands-free on CarPlay, including multi-step requests such as asking for recommendations and then navigating there while avoiding toll roads. Users activate it by tapping the Gemini icon in Google Maps. Google says rollout is happening globally without specifying regions. The Personal Intelligence features announced for Android Auto the previous day, which let the assistant access Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search data, were not included and Google did not clarify whether CarPlay users will receive them.
