Google tests Gemini Call for Me so the AI can phone businesses for Pixel 11 users
Google announced on September 24 that it is testing Call for Me for Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. with paid Gemini subscriptions, letting the AI place calls, navigate menus, wait on hold, and complete routine tasks on the user's behalf.
Google launched a limited test of Call for Me on September 24. Powered by Gemini, the feature uses the user's own phone number to call businesses on their behalf, with use cases including checking stock, booking a restaurant table, rescheduling an appointment, or placing a hold. The AI introduces itself, navigates phone trees, waits on hold, and can share personal details pre-approved by the user. A live transcript lets the user follow along and take over the call at any point.
The test is limited to U.S. Pixel 11 owners with paid Gemini subscriptions running the beta Phone app. Google said it is deliberately starting small because real conversations are more nuanced than scripted demos. Call for Me ships alongside the Gemini 3.8 Live voice model from the prior week and the new Private AI Compute memory feature, as Google assembles voice, memory, vision, and live face generation into a single product.
The service reuses Google's existing enterprise call-automation deployment template and competes with voice-agent vendors. It is part of a cluster of conversational AI updates including Gemini 3.8 Live Live Avatar and Cloud Partner Interconnect improvements. Call for Me is a logical extension of Call Screen, the existing Pixel capability that lets Google Assistant answer suspected spam calls on behalf of the user.
