AI chip startup Etched doubles to $21B valuation in one month, Jane Street leads $700M

AI inference chip startup Etched on Aug 18 closed a $700M round at a $21B valuation, led by Jane Street which also became its first live customer; July valuation was just $10.3B, doubling in one month.

AI inference chip startup Etched closed a $700 million funding round on August 18, 2026, with valuation doubling from $10.3 billion in July to $21 billion. Quantitative trading giant Jane Street led the round and became Etched's first live customer.Etched sells its custom inference hardware as "frontier inference clusters" delivered as full-rack installations, positioning the architecture as a direct alternative to NVIDIA's integrated AI systems. Jane Street purchased, installed, and tested Etched hardware in its own production data centers before deciding to invest.Jane Street had previously announced the purchase and deployment of Etched equipment to validate inference performance. The $700 million round comes only one month after Etched's $10.3 billion valuation, an approximately $11 billion jump. The announcement noted that Etched inference clusters have shipped first racks to Jane Street. In the same month, Cerebras launched the CS-4 system, intensifying competition in the AI chip layer.
