Anthropic releases Claude Opus 4, pushing the frontier in coding and agentic search

Anthropic released Claude Opus 4 on May 22, 2025, pushing the frontier in coding, agentic search and creative writing. It was the first version to support running Claude Code in the background, letting developers delegate long-running coding tasks to Opus without constant supervision. Opus 4 established the architecture and pricing basis for the later Opus 4.1 through 4.7 series and became the starting point of Claude's enterprise coding capability.
