Anthropic releases Claude Opus 4.8 at same price, focusing on honesty
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 on May 28 at the same $5/$25 per 1M tokens pricing, with Fast Mode price cut 3x to $10/$50.
Anthropic released the Claude Opus 4.8 model on May 28. This is a same-price upgrade in the Opus series, with standard pricing maintained at $5 input and $25 output per 1M tokens.
Opus 4.8's core improvements focus on judgment and honesty. According to Anthropic's official evaluation, the model is roughly four times less likely than the previous Opus 4.7 to let flaws in its own code pass unflagged, more willing to actively mark uncertainty and reduce unsupported conclusions. Anthropic calls this the company's most honest model to date.
Fast Mode launched simultaneously at $10 input and $50 output per 1M tokens, running at 2.5x standard mode speed and costing one-third of the previous generation Fast Mode.
Opus 4.8 also introduces Claude Code Dynamic Workflows (research preview), allowing agents to run hundreds of parallel subagents handling codebase-scale migration tasks. The Effort Control feature lets users adjust reasoning depth between Low, High, and Max.
