The Verge reported on October 14 that Apple is expected to launch Apple Intelligence in China in December with iOS 27.3, but the first version will not include the latest Siri AI based on Apple Foundation Models and will only include basic writing tools, Genmoji, image cleanup and photo memory creation; the latest Siri AI will require a later release and separate regulatory approval through domestic compliance channels. The report notes Apple Intelligence in China needs backend inference through a local partner's compliance channel; rumoured partners include Baidu, Alibaba and Baichuan, which hold large-model qualifications and data localisation capabilities; the specific deployment may include cloud inference, local model or private deployment in various combinations, subject to the Interim Measures for the Management of Generative AI Services and cross-border data security assessments. iOS 27.3 will also introduce China-exclusive features such as a localised Live Activities experience and a localised Apple Pay+ service; the China launch of Apple Intelligence will trail the rest of the world by roughly 6 to 9 months in features.
