Anthropic confirms in-house chip team, hiring engineers up to $485K
Anthropic confirmed on August 5 that it is assembling an in-house chip design team to build custom AI chips for Claude, while maintaining its multi-chip strategy with AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD.
On August 5, an Anthropic spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that the company is assembling an in-house chip design team to build custom AI chips for Claude. This is the first public confirmation of the program. Anthropic plans to co-design hardware and models so Claude can run faster and more efficiently at the scale customers need.
Anthropic is hiring silicon engineers in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle with annual compensation of $320,000 to $485,000. Roles cover front-end design, pre-silicon verification, physical design, design-for-test, analog and mixed signal, process and foundry, design automation and infrastructure, packaging, signal integrity, and power integrity.
Anthropic framed the move as the latest step in its multi-chip strategy rather than a replacement for external supply. The company will continue to deploy AI chips from AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD. In June, Anthropic hired Clive Chan, who previously led OpenAI custom chip work, accelerating the team build-out.
Reuters reported in April that Anthropic was exploring custom silicon. The Information reported in July that Anthropic had held discussions with Samsung Foundry about its 2nm process node and advanced packaging. Anthropic has not disclosed chip architecture, primary use case, or timeline.
