Claude web, desktop and mobile apps default to auto mode starting next week
Anthropic announced the Claude web, desktop and mobile apps will default to auto mode from next week, reducing step-by-step approval prompts. Previously published test data put task block rate at about 1% under this mode, down from 13.6%.
Anthropic announced through its official account that the Claude web, desktop and mobile apps will default to auto mode from next week, no longer requiring users to confirm risky operations step by step. The mode has previously run as the default in Claude Code; this extends it to end-user applications.
Anthropic's previously published figures show the task block rate falling from 13.6% to roughly 1% with auto mode enabled, across 1,053 paying developers in testing. The stated rationale is that the mode substantially reduces interruptions in real use.
The change also shifts a permission boundary. Defaulting to automatic execution removes per-step user involvement, moving the safety model from per-action authorisation to prior authorisation. Anthropic did not state whether users can revert to step-by-step confirmation.
