1Password launches credential proxy platform so AI agents can log in without seeing passwords
1Password released a trust layer for AI agents that lets agents complete site logins and authentication under per-use user approval, with secrets never exposed to the agent, alongside updated terms of service clarifying this usage.
1Password released a credential proxy scheme for AI agents on October 22. Under the mechanism an agent can complete site logins and authentication on the user's behalf while the password or key stays inside 1Password and is never passed to the agent. Each call requires individual user approval and users can review the full call log.
The company simultaneously updated its terms of service to explicitly bring agent-mediated credential use inside the authorised scope, avoiding a terms dispute over automated access. This is a permissions model change rather than a plain feature release.
Launch materials list compatible agent products including Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work and Grok Bot. 1Password did not publish pricing for the capability or clarify the effect on existing subscription tiers.
