Anthropic donates Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation
Anthropic donated the Agent Skills specification to the Agentic AI Foundation, co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI. Since opening in December 2025 the standard has been backed by over 70 platforms with roughly 1 million skills and 280 million installs.
Anthropic announced on October 22 that it is donating the Agent Skills specification to the Agentic AI Foundation, co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI. The foundation exists to maintain a cross-vendor standard for how agent skills are described and loaded, reducing the duplication of every platform defining its own approach.
The numbers indicate substantial adoption. Since the specification opened in December 2025 it has been backed by over 70 platforms, with about 280 million installs and roughly 1 million skills. The original form grew out of the Agent Skills Anthropic shipped in October 2025; the donation means future evolution is led by the foundation rather than a single vendor.
Anthropic said its own products continue using the same specification and that migration will not change existing skill behaviour. The foundation did not provide further detail on governance changes.
